Project Potential Trust

Project Potential Trust is an Indian rural development organisation dedicated to unlocking the inherent potential of young people and their communities. Rooted in the belief that sustainable change must be locally led, the organisation works alongside youth in under resourced rural districts to nurture leadership, critical thinking, and community action. Through immersive learning, mentorship, and project based initiatives, Project Potential supports young people to design and implement solutions addressing challenges in education, health, livelihoods.

I spent time documenting Project Potential’s work across village communities, focusing on lived experiences rather than programme narratives. A significant part of the work centred on portraiture around health access through the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) card. I photographed individuals and families who have used the scheme for treatment, speaking with them about hospital visits, medical costs, recovery, and what access to care has meant in practical terms. The portraits are grounded in everyday settings homes, courtyards, community spaces where the impact of healthcare policy becomes personal and visible.

Alongside this, I documented the Rural India Youth Leadership initiative, spending time with young people in workshops, discussions, and informal moments. Through interviews and portrait sessions, I explored their experiences, uncertainties, and ambitions how they understand opportunity, responsibility, and their place within their communities.
